Success Story

“My career at IW started in 1989 while I was in college. I took a summer help position working at the Williamstown plant.  I painted bathrooms, mowed lawns, ran parts and other odd jobs.  It was then that I got a taste for wire and cable and met some of the people that I still work with today.  After graduating from college in 1991, I took a temporary position as a Maintenance/Receiving Helper.  This included assisting mechanics, running parts, unloading trucks, and stacking empty reels.  At the age of 21, my two employments at IW totaled about 6 months.  At that point I was eager to travel and get out of central NY, so I spent some time driving across the country.

While living in New Orleans in 1992 I got a call and was offered a Management Trainee position.  This consisted of 6 months of training as an Operator on every machine type at that time.  Some spots were just a week long to get the hang of it and others lasted longer.  I even spent about 6 weeks working nights as an Intermediate Draw Operator – filling a vacant position.  The training then moved to the office, and I spent time in every department – except payroll.  Some of the projects included creating a template to calculate seniority, installing AS400 terminals in the sales and shipping offices, converting the OWI-Camden and Jordan plants from a paper inventory to the ERP system and training at the Auburn, NY plant in all aspects.  Lastly was a position as the scheduler for the Bremen plant.  While I loved the company and the people I worked with, I felt like I needed to do something else, so I left in January 1994.

Many people told me I would come back, and in November 1994 I did. I took a position in the sales team and have held multiple commercial positions between then and today. These have included Customer Service, Regional/Traveling Sales, Project Manager for multiple ERP conversions at acquired companies, Sales Analyst, Sales Manager @ HPC and now Director of Business Development & Marketing Analytics.  Over the last 27 years, I’ve gotten married, built a few houses, moved multiple times (including to South Carolina in 2017), help my wife raise 3 great young men, went back to school for my Master’s degree and have had the pleasure of working with some incredible people at IW.  While I have had quite a few jobs since 1989, I’ve spent 29 of the last 32 years working for International Wire.  I am very grateful for the opportunities I have had while working at IW.”
